Working with Dr. Johnson and Halicia has been a game changer for my energy, mental clarity, back/hip pain, and overall health. The wellness program is truly holistic - addressing your mental health, nervous system, and physical health. I have a newfound appreciation for how my nervous system impacts the quality of my life. Since going through the program, I am sleeping better, eating better, moving better with less pain, making better decisions, and happier. I now have the tools to continue living at an elevated level. One of the best investments I've ever made. Thank you Dr. Johnson and Halicia!

I don’t usually write reviews like this, but I felt I had to share my experience because it truly means so much to me. Five months ago, when I started with Dr. Johnson at Thrive Naturopathic, I wasn’t feeling like myself at all. My energy was low, my mood was off, and I just knew something wasn’t right. It was frustrating and honestly a little discouraging. Today, I can say I feel like a completely different person. My energy is back, my mood has lifted, and for the first time in a long time, I genuinely feel good—inside and out. It’s hard to put into words how much that means. Dr. Johnson didn’t just treat symptoms—he listened, he cared, and he guided me every step of the way. I never felt like just another patient. I felt supported, understood, and truly taken care of. This journey has been life-changing for me. I’m beyond grateful, and I can honestly say this program has done what feels like miracles in my life. If you’re struggling or unsure, I hope my story encourages you to take that first step. It might just change everything for you, too.

Working with Dr. Johnson and Halicia has been truly life-changing. As someone who works in medicine, I was initially skeptical about the benefits of naturopathic and holistic care, but my perspective has completely changed. After struggling with persistent health issue for months, I finally feel like myself again. Dr. Johnson took the time to look at the root cause of my symptoms rather than just treating them superficially. Dr. Johnson's approach was thoughtful, thorough, and personalized, and I always felt heard and supported throughout the process. I’m so grateful for the progress I’ve made and would highly recommend Thrive Naturopathic to anyone!

I debated for a long time about writing this review, but I finally decided to share my experience. I went to Thrive Naturopathic in 2024 because I was struggling with my health and wasn’t getting answers from Western medicine. I was told everything was “fine” and that it was likely just anxiety, so I turned to Thrive hoping for real answers based on their positive reviews. I stayed in the program for about 8 months before deciding to leave. In my experience, the program mainly focused on dietary changes and brain training techniques. While those can be helpful, the cost is extremely high for what’s actually being offered. The initial testing also felt very basic- no different from what you’d get at a standard doctor’s appointment, which is disappointing given how much they charge. After leaving, I went to another holistic practitioner who did much more extensive bloodwork. That’s when I found out I actually had underlying issues that Thrive couldn't indentify. I started feeling better within two weeks of proper treatment, whereas at Thrive I felt worse over time and was repeatedly told to “be patient” and that “healing doesn’t happen overnight.” Again, I waited 8 months before I decided to leave. I strongly encourage others to do thorough research before committing to such an expensive program. For comparison, my current holistic provider charges significantly less and provided far more thorough care. This experience definitely made me more cautious about trusting online reviews.

My wife and I wanted to treat the root cause of our health issues, not just mask symptoms with prescriptions. After researching functional medicine, we chose Thrive Naturopathic, and it was the best decision we could have made. Dr. Johnson, Dr. Fig, and Halicia Jones provided the most comprehensive blood screening we’ve ever had. Through their guidance on diet, fitness, and mindfulness, we’ve both lost weight, gained energy, and feel empowered as we approach our 60s. We finally have the tools to age gracefully without 'punishing' ourselves. I cannot overstate the benefits of Thrive’s program.

What a great experience it has been to be a patient of Thrive Naturopathic! Even though I traveled a lot and wasn't able to stick to the program 100 percent, I have still had remarkable success. Before the program, I had constant headaches, joint pain, hand tremors, lots of hot flashes, low immune function (I frequently caught colds that took 3-4 weeks to recover from), overly sensitive skin (very dry and itchy), mucus in the back of my throat (I was constantly "clearing my throat"), as well as depression and anxiety. When I was home and it was easier to really stick with the program, all those things were MUCH better. As I write this, I still have to work on the depression and anxiety; I traveled the better part of the past 4 months, helping with fussy newborn babies and not getting much sleep, so I need to focus on my mental health now. All of the other symptoms are pretty much resolved, even with all the recent stress. This program provides so much helpful advice and the staff are incredibly supportive. Dr. Johnson, Dr. Fig, and Halicia were AMAZING to work with - they are true professionals that really care! Joy was always quick to respond and send remedies along the way. I am so glad I signed up for the program I did; I highly recommend Thrive Naturopathic for anyone dealing with diminished health!

I am incredibly grateful to have found Dr. Johnson and his wellness program. It helped me uncover deep, underlying issues I had been struggling with for years—issues that past doctors never identified because the right questions were never asked. Dr. Johnson, Dr. Fig, and Halicia were not only incredibly attentive, but also compassionate and genuinely invested in my treatment. Even after completing the program, I continue to have access to the resources I need to maintain my progress, which means more to me than I can express.

The different stages of the program made it easy to make lifestyle changes and did not feel overwhelming at all. I felt supported throughout the whole thing. This review has intentionally been a long time coming. I completed the program six months ago and deliberately waited to write a review to ensure the program was still effective. When I signed up with Thrive a year ago, I was looking for a long-term solution rather than a quick fix. I’m happy to say I found it. When I reached out to Thrive last year, I suffered from poor sleep, weight gain, low energy, and increased irritability. I have a great wife and family, yet when I showed up on Thrive’s doorstep I was far from being the husband and father they deserved. I’ve always been in good shape both physically and mentally, but life with four young kids (my oldest is 7) caused me to cut corners with my diet and exercise, and I was beginning to pay a steep price for it. Something had to change. That’s when I reached out to Dr. Chris and his team at Thrive Naturopathic. The program they’ve developed and the support they provided is nothing less than outstanding! The program is broken down into very manageable blocks with measurable and attainable goals and objectives. And best of all, they assign a coach to help with any extra motivation or information you may need along the way. I recommend that you call them to learn more about the program to determine if it’s a good fit for you. I will tell you that one year later I have a better overall attitude, more energy, better sleep and less weight—all thanks to Thrive. My only advice is that you don’t wait as long as I did to make that call. Good luck!

Everyone at Thrive Naturopathic is an expert in their field of study and their knowledge and framework is the real deal. I just completed the 6 month program with Thrive Naturopathic, and I feel like a completely different person. Before starting, I was struggling just to get through the day, low energy, constant brain fog, and ongoing digestive issues had put my life on pause. I could hardly function, and it felt like no one truly understood what I was going through. Working with Thrive changed everything. Their naturopath truly took the time to get to the root cause of my issues, not just mask the symptoms. I’ve learned how to take better care of myself in a way that feels sustainable and supportive of my long term health. Now, I move through my days with so much more energy and clarity. My digestion has improved drastically, and I finally feel like myself again. I’m beyond grateful for Thrive Naturopathic. They care deeply and it shows. This program was one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health and well being.

Dr. Johnson and his team completely transformed my life. When I arrived in April 2024, I was dealing with the residual effects of a medical issue that left me on numerous medications. I was overweight, my eating habits were sub-par, and I simply felt awful all of the time. I had been to numerous doctors and specialists who, time after time told me I was medically fine, yet I didn’t have the energy to chase after my toddler, let alone exercise. Dr. Johnson and his team took the time to listen to all of my symptoms and ask many questions. They developed a plan that included a regimented diet, supplements, and various lifestyle changes. The results came quickly. As each week passed, I lost weight, had more energy, and, most importantly, gained confidence in myself. By the fall, I lost 55 pounds, and lowered my cholesterol by nearly 100 points. My doctors took me off all of the medications that they had previously told me I would be on for the rest of my life. When I asked these doctors why, they said it was because I made lifestyle changes that 99.9 percent of people don’t make. Today, I still largely stick to my new healthy diet. I exercise regularly and more recently I started playing hockey again, something I never thought would be possible. Dr. Johnson, Dr. Fig, Halicia, and the rest of the team helped me become a better dad, husband, son, brother, friend, and co-worker. I’m forever grateful and cannot say enough positive things about Thrive Naturopathic.

Thrive Naturopathic has been such a blessing in my life. Dr. Johnson, Dr. Fig and Halicia were wonderful to work with- they truly care about your overall health and wellbeing. In the last seven months, I saw major improvements in my physical and emotional health- my anxiety, brain fog and high blood pressure each improved- and the knowledge I gained was, and still is, invaluable. The recommended supplements and program modules, with frequent phone calls and zoom appointments truly made me feel supported during each step of the way. Most doctors will rush you in and out of their offices, never truly taking the time to listen to your unique symptoms. The blood tests ordered are often routine tests that do not dig deeper into what may be going on inside of your body. Dr. Johnson and his team are thorough and well educated. They care about you and want to see your health improve. 10/10 recommend!

When I approached Thrive early August of 2023 I had gotten to a low point of energy, motivation and health (very bad GERD) in post menopause and wanted to find a natural way to get healthy again. I had a knee replacement scheduled for Aug 30 so started a month after that when I got off pain meds. With my husband's joint participation we started on the road to recovery thru elimination of different foods each week, a full week of a very easy detox, then built our diet back up one food at a time. It was such an enjoyable experience because the food was so fresh, the seasonings new and delicious, and the recipes so easy. By Christmas I had lost 27 lbs (which I needed to do but was not expecting) and my husband about 12 lbs without trying. We've found that we prefer to eat the way Thrive taught us and are making up our own recipes now. In addition, with their help with different supplements and nootropics, my motivation and energy are back to where I used to be - positive, curious and active. Their monthly coaching calls are wonderful and Halicia was full of positive reinforcement and helped me navigate various changes. And the meetings with Dr Fig or Dr Johnson help you understand how your gut, your hormones and your nervous system play a huge part in your health. It has been such a wonderful adventure, and I hope if you are looking for a healthier lifestyle you will contact the wonderful team at Thrive!

For years, I struggled with PCOS. I tried everything – different diets, medications, you name it. My weight wouldn't budge, my periods were nonexistent, and my skin was a constant battleground with eczema and acne. I felt defeated and exhausted. I knew that traditional medicine wouldn't work for me anymore so I started looking into alternatives. Then I found Thrive Naturopathic. The team there is amazing! They listened carefully to all my symptoms, from the weight gain to the skin issues. It felt like they genuinely cared about helping me feel better. After working with them, they created a personalized approach just for me. It wasn't a quick fix, but slowly but surely, things started to change. I started losing weight, and for the first time in years, I got my period back! My eczema completely cleared up, and my acne is almost gone. But the best part? I have so much more energy now. It feels like I have a whole new lease on life! If you're struggling with PCOS and feel like nothing is working, I highly recommend Thrive Naturopathic. They took the time to understand my unique situation and helped me get back to feeling like myself again. Thank you, Thrive Naturopathic!

All members of Thrive have great communication skills, are knowledgeable and flexible. I came to Thrive with multiple concerns such as fatigue, brain fog, body aches and anxiety and the Thrive team helped me with all of them. The traditional doctors were quite helpless when it came to these symptoms. I remember that my doctor would tell me that he did not know what was wrong with me and I seemed healthy. Once I enrolled in the Thrive program and started implementing homeopathy, supplements and diet changes I felt much better within several weeks and continue to do so. I am very grateful to Dr. Johnson and his team and look forward to continuing our relationship.

Dr. Johnson and his team at Thrive Naturopathic were wonderful to work with. Their program helped me learn the tools needed to get myself back on track with a healthier lifestyle. In the past 7 months working with Thrive, I have naturally lost 20 pounds, my health has improved significantly, I feel better and sleep better, I am less stressed, and my digestive symptoms I was experiencing are very much improved. When I started with Thrive, my lab work showed some levels outside of the normal range, which were causing me concern. My most recent labs showed, not just improvement to within normal, but they showed really great levels. I am now much more aware of what I consume and how to properly take care of my body through a natural, healthier lifestyle. Many primary care doctors don’t ever seem to take the time to listen to you, to really know or care what is causing your symptoms. They just want to give you a pill for everything. Dr. Johnson takes the time to listen to your symptoms, run the right labs, discuss the results with you, and develop a plan to address the causes of your symptoms and abnormal levels. His team then makes adjustments to your plan, as needed, to help you reach your goals. I could not be more pleased with my results and would definitely recommend Dr. Johnson and the Thrive Naturopathic team for a more natural approach to your health needs.

Why Menopause Can Feel So Disruptive

Content by Dr. Christopher Johnson, ND | Founder of Thrive Naturopathic

Menopause is not simply a change in reproductive hormones. For many women, it can feel like your entire body has changed.

Sleep can become lighter and less restorative. Stress feels harder to manage. Weight may begin accumulating differently — particularly around the midsection. Energy, focus, mood and resilience can all shift during this transition.

Many women come to us feeling frustrated because they’re eating well, exercising and “doing all the right things,” yet still feel unlike themselves.

Midlife hormone and metabolic health is the central focus of our practice. And after nearly two decades working with over 3,000 patients, I’ve found that menopause affects you in ways that seem far beyond hormones alone — including sleep, metabolism, stress resilience, mood and overall wellbeing.

That’s why at Thrive Naturopathic, we take a broader and more comprehensive approach to menopause care. Rather than chasing symptoms, we focus on the underlying systems that influence hormone health during midlife — including the liver and digestive tract (both of which play a huge role in processing hormones), immune function and inflammation as well as, very importantly, your stress-response and nervous system balance.

Our goal is not temporary symptom relief. Instead, we help you create sustainable changes and transform basic systems of the body that support long-term energy, resilience, metabolic health and overall wellbeing.

We view menopause as the perfect opportunity to rebuild your health from the bottom up – to get you ready, and in great shape, for the next chapter of your life.

Common Midlife Changes We Help Address

Menopause can affect far more than reproductive hormones alone. Over the years, we have worked with many women experiencing changes in sleep, mood, stress resilience, metabolism, energy and overall wellbeing during midlife.

Sleep Disruption

Difficulty falling asleep, waking during the night or feeling unrested despite adequate sleep are among the most common concerns women experience during menopause.

Weight & Metabolism Changes

Many women notice increased abdominal weight gain, changes in body composition or a slower metabolism during midlife — even when their habits have not significantly changed.

Mood & Stress Sensitivity

Hormonal and nervous system changes during menopause can contribute to irritability, anxiety, emotional overwhelm or reduced stress resilience in midlife women.

Fatigue & Brain Fog

Lower energy, reduced motivation, difficulty concentrating and mental fatigue are common during the menopause transition.

Hot Flashes & Night Sweats

Temperature dysregulation can interfere with comfort, sleep quality and daily functioning during menopause transitions.

Gut & Digestive Changes

Some women experience increased bloating, food sensitivities, digestive changes or increased inflammation during midlife.

Our Approach to Midlife Hormone Health

We believe menopause care should address more than isolated symptoms.

Over years of working with women in midlife, we have seen how closely hormone changes are connected with sleep, stress physiology, metabolism, digestion and overall resilience. This is one reason many women feel that multiple areas of their health begin changing at the same time.

Our holistic solutions focus on identifying and addressing the broader patterns contributing to these shifts. Depending on the individual, this may include nutrition and lifestyle strategies, sleep support, nervous system regulation, digestive health, metabolic support and targeted supplementation.

We also recognize that meaningful improvement often requires structure, accountability and ongoing guidance — not simply a brief appointment or short-term protocol.

Through our personalized, program-based model, patients receive continued support as they implement sustainable changes designed to improve long-term health and wellbeing

Why Sleep, Stress & Metabolism Matter During Menopause

Hormonal changes during menopause do not occur in isolation. Sleep, stress physiology and metabolic health can all influence how women experience this transition.

Poor sleep and chronic stress may worsen fatigue, increase inflammation and contribute to changes in mood, appetite and weight regulation. Reduced muscle mass and metabolic changes during midlife can also make it more difficult to maintain energy and body composition.

After years of helping women through menopause, we have found that addressing these interconnected systems often leads to more meaningful and sustainable improvement than focusing on hormones alone.

This broader systems-based perspective is one reason midlife hormone and metabolic health have become such an important focus of our practice.

For women seeking deeper support around metabolism, insulin resistance or weight changes during midlife, we also offer our Midlife Metabolic Reset program.

Program-Based Care & Health Coaching

Many women struggling during menopause feel overwhelmed by conflicting information and frustrated by fragmented care.

Our program-based approach is designed to provide structure, education and ongoing support throughout the process of improving health during midlife.

In addition to working with Dr. Christopher Johnson, patients receive support from our health coaching team to help with implementation, accountability and sustainable lifestyle change.

Over the years, we have found that women are often far more successful when they receive consistent guidance and support while making meaningful changes to sleep, nutrition, stress management and overall health habits.

This collaborative model allows patients to move beyond short-term symptom management and focus on building long-term resilience, metabolic health and overall wellbeing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Menopause can contribute to a wide range of symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, fatigue, mood changes, brain fog, weight gain and reduced stress resilience. Many women also notice changes in energy, metabolism and overall wellbeing during midlife Sometimes this can start in the 40’s (perimenopause) before transitioning fully in menopausal years.

Midlife hormone and metabolic health are a primary focus of our practice. After nearly two decades working with thousands of patients, we have found that many women benefit from a broader systems-based approach that addresses sleep, stress physiology, metabolism, digestion and overall resilience — not hormones alone.

Our personalized, program-based model also provides ongoing guidance and support throughout the process of improving health during midlife, rather than relying solely on isolated appointments or short-term symptom management.

No. Our practice does not utilize bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

Instead, we focus on addressing the broader underlying factors that influence how women experience menopause — including sleep, stress physiology, metabolism, digestion, inflammation and overall resilience.

Over the years, we have found that most women can experience meaningful and significant improvements in energy, sleep, mood, metabolic health and overall wellbeing through our comprehensive systems-based approach to midlife health.

Every individual is different. Some women notice improvements relatively quickly, while deeper or more longstanding patterns may require more time and consistent support.

Our goal is not simply short-term symptom relief, but helping you create sustainable, long-lasting improvements in health, resilience and overall wellbeing.

We have seen many women improve body composition, energy and metabolic health during midlife when underlying factors such as sleep, stress physiology, nutrition and metabolic function are addressed comprehensively.

Sustainable improvement typically requires a personalized and consistent approach rather than quick fixes or restrictive dieting.

Yes. We offer both virtual and  in-person (in our Alexandria office) appointments.

Yes. Our approach often includes more comprehensive testing than many women have previously received through conventional medical evaluations.

Depending on the individual, this may include hormonal testing as well as evaluation of factors that commonly influence midlife hormone and metabolic health — such as nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, immune system patterns and metabolic markers.

We use testing strategically to better understand the underlying patterns contributing to symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, sleep disruption, mood changes and reduced stress resilience.

At the same time, it is important to remember that testing is only one part of the process. Lasting improvements in your health depends on making meaningful changes in areas such as nutrition, sleep, stress physiology, movement and lifestyle patterns over time.
