Why We Use Program-Based Care
Creating lasting improvements in health often requires more than a single appointment.
Our programs provide the structure, support and accountability needed to help patients create meaningful change and build a stronger foundation for long-term health.
Five months ago, when I started with Dr. Johnson at Thrive Naturopathic, I wasn’t feeling like myself at all. My energy was low, my mood was off, and I just knew something wasn’t right. It was frustrating and honestly a little discouraging.
Today, I can say I feel like a completely different person. My energy is back, my mood has lifted, and for the first time in a long time, I genuinely feel good—inside and out. It’s hard to put into words how much that means.
Dr. Johnson didn’t just treat symptoms—he listened, he cared, and he guided me every step of the way. I never felt like just another patient. I felt supported, understood, and truly taken care of.
This journey has been life-changing for me. I’m beyond grateful, and I can honestly say this program has done what feels like miracles in my life.
If you’re struggling or unsure, I hope my story encourages you to take that first step. It might just change everything for you, too.
After struggling with persistent health issue for months, I finally feel like myself again. Dr. Johnson took the time to look at the root cause of my symptoms rather than just treating them superficially. Dr. Johnson's approach was thoughtful, thorough, and personalized, and I always felt heard and supported throughout the process.
I’m so grateful for the progress I’ve made and would highly recommend Thrive Naturopathic to anyone!
I went to Thrive Naturopathic in 2024 because I was struggling with my health and wasn’t getting answers from Western medicine. I was told everything was “fine” and that it was likely just anxiety, so I turned to Thrive hoping for real answers based on their positive reviews.
I stayed in the program for about 8 months before deciding to leave. In my experience, the program mainly focused on dietary changes and brain training techniques. While those can be helpful, the cost is extremely high for what’s actually being offered. The initial testing also felt very basic- no different from what you’d get at a standard doctor’s appointment, which is disappointing given how much they charge.
After leaving, I went to another holistic practitioner who did much more extensive bloodwork. That’s when I found out I actually had underlying issues that Thrive couldn't indentify. I started feeling better within two weeks of proper treatment, whereas at Thrive I felt worse over time and was repeatedly told to “be patient” and that “healing doesn’t happen overnight.” Again, I waited 8 months before I decided to leave.
I strongly encourage others to do thorough research before committing to such an expensive program. For comparison, my current holistic provider charges significantly less and provided far more thorough care.
This experience definitely made me more cautious about trusting online reviews.
This program provides so much helpful advice and the staff are incredibly supportive. Dr. Johnson, Dr. Fig, and Halicia were AMAZING to work with - they are true professionals that really care! Joy was always quick to respond and send remedies along the way.
I am so glad I signed up for the program I did; I highly recommend Thrive Naturopathic for anyone dealing with diminished health!
My time at Thrive has fundamentally changed my relationship with food, stressors, and how I view my body and overall health. I’ve never felt more understood or supported, and I’m genuinely grateful for the impact they’ve had on my life. Highly recommend!
When I reached out to Thrive last year, I suffered from poor sleep, weight gain, low energy, and increased irritability. I have a great wife and family, yet when I showed up on Thrive’s doorstep I was far from being the husband and father they deserved. I’ve always been in good shape both physically and mentally, but life with four young kids (my oldest is 7) caused me to cut corners with my diet and exercise, and I was beginning to pay a steep price for it. Something had to change.
That’s when I reached out to Dr. Chris and his team at Thrive Naturopathic. The program they’ve developed and the support they provided is nothing less than outstanding! The program is broken down into very manageable blocks with measurable and attainable goals and objectives. And best of all, they assign a coach to help with any extra motivation or information you may need along the way.
I recommend that you call them to learn more about the program to determine if it’s a good fit for you. I will tell you that one year later I have a better overall attitude, more energy, better sleep and less weight—all thanks to Thrive. My only advice is that you don’t wait as long as I did to make that call. Good luck!
Working with Thrive changed everything. Their naturopath truly took the time to get to the root cause of my issues, not just mask the symptoms. I’ve learned how to take better care of myself in a way that feels sustainable and supportive of my long term health. Now, I move through my days with so much more energy and clarity. My digestion has improved drastically, and I finally feel like myself again.
I’m beyond grateful for Thrive Naturopathic. They care deeply and it shows. This program was one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health and well being.
As each week passed, I lost weight, had more energy, and, most importantly, gained confidence in myself. By the fall, I lost 55 pounds, and lowered my cholesterol by nearly 100 points. My doctors took me off all of the medications that they had previously told me I would be on for the rest of my life. When I asked these doctors why, they said it was because I made lifestyle changes that 99.9 percent of people don’t make.
Today, I still largely stick to my new healthy diet. I exercise regularly and more recently I started playing hockey again, something I never thought would be possible. Dr. Johnson, Dr. Fig, Halicia, and the rest of the team helped me become a better dad, husband, son, brother, friend, and co-worker. I’m forever grateful and cannot say enough positive things about Thrive Naturopathic.
I knew that traditional medicine wouldn't work for me anymore so I started looking into alternatives. Then I found Thrive Naturopathic. The team there is amazing! They listened carefully to all my symptoms, from the weight gain to the skin issues. It felt like they genuinely cared about helping me feel better.
After working with them, they created a personalized approach just for me. It wasn't a quick fix, but slowly but surely, things started to change. I started losing weight, and for the first time in years, I got my period back! My eczema completely cleared up, and my acne is almost gone. But the best part? I have so much more energy now. It feels like I have a whole new lease on life!
If you're struggling with PCOS and feel like nothing is working, I highly recommend Thrive Naturopathic. They took the time to understand my unique situation and helped me get back to feeling like myself again. Thank you, Thrive Naturopathic!
Virtual and In-Person Appointments Available
Healthcare Is Often Built Around Appointments. We Focus on Outcomes.
Content by Dr. Christopher Johnson, ND | Founder of Thrive Naturopathic
Many healthcare models are built around individual appointments. You schedule a visit, receive recommendations, and then try to implement those recommendations on your own until the next appointment.
While this approach can be helpful, many people find themselves accumulating information without creating the lasting changes they are hoping for.
Whether the goal is navigating menopause, improving sleep, supporting metabolism, losing weight, increasing energy or simply feeling more like yourself again, meaningful progress often requires more than a single plan. It requires support, accountability, refinement and time.
At Thrive Naturopathic, our programs are designed to provide that support while helping you build a stronger foundation for long-term health.
Why Lasting Change Takes Time
Many of the health challenges people experience during midlife do not develop overnight.
Changes in hormones, metabolism, body composition, sleep quality, stress resilience and energy levels often occur gradually over many years.
Likewise, meaningful improvements usually occur through a series of small, consistent changes that build upon one another over time.
Nutrition habits improve.
Sleep becomes more restorative.
Nervous system patterns become more balanced.
Stress becomes easier to manage.
Energy and resilience begin to return.
Metabolic health strengthens.
Rather than pursuing short-term fixes, our programs are designed to help patients create sustainable improvements that continue benefiting them long after the program itself is complete.
“This practice is amazing, they don’t just give you the program {which is amazing in itself, full of profound knowledge, gives you all the tools you need in all areas of your life}, they genuinely care and provide continuous support and guidance throughout the program. You never feel like you are alone in this, and whenever something comes up and you reach out, they respond back to you… and provide you with all you need to get through it. It’s like you have a special team of experts who are very knowledgeable and very organized, always by your side to support and guide you in your health journey and celebrate with you, your results each step of the way…So grateful for you all.”

Why We Use Programs Instead of Individual Visits
Over nearly two decades in practice, Dr. Christopher Johnson has worked with thousands of patients seeking solutions for hormone concerns, digestive issues, fatigue, stress-related symptoms, metabolic challenges and other health concerns.
One of the most important lessons learned during that time is that information alone rarely creates transformation.
Most patients do not need another article to read.
They don’t need another supplement sitting on the kitchen counter.
They do not need another list of recommendations that feels impossible to implement consistently.
They need a clear plan, ongoing support, accountability and the ability to adjust that plan as life happens.
That is why our care is structured around programs rather than isolated visits.
Programs allow us to:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of your health
- Create a personalized roadmap
- Provide support between appointments
- Adjust recommendations as your needs evolve
- Address obstacles as they arise
- Help translate knowledge into action
- Focus on sustainable results rather than short-term fixe
How our approach Is different
Care Structure – From Information to Implementation
Conventional Care
Individual appointments are typically focused on evaluating symptoms, making a diagnosis and determining the next step in treatment.
Limited opportunity for guidance between appointments, with patients often responsible for implementing recommendations on their own.
Standard Functional/Holistic
Longer appointments and more personalized recommendations, typically delivered through a series of individual visits. Protocol-based.
Additional follow-up visits may be available, but support between appointments is often limited.
Thrive Program-Based
Same as standard functional care, but we help you translate knowledge into action through ongoing guidance, accountability, education and support – because information alone rarely creates lasting change.
This helps you stay engaged, navigate obstacles and also allows us to fine tune the therapies on a regular basis.
Healing is a dynamic process
Conventional Care
Many conventional treatments are designed to manage symptoms, correct abnormalities or help control disease. These approaches can be extremely valuable and, in some situations, lifesaving. However, they are often not intended to fundamentally change the underlying patterns that may have contributed to a person’s health concerns in the first place.
Standard Functional/Holistic
Functional and holistic practitioners often seek to identify contributing factors such as nutritional deficiencies, hormone imbalances, digestive dysfunction, inflammation or lifestyle factors.
Recommendations may be adjusted, but this is generally done infrequently and the approach is primarily protocol-based (i.e. your labs show X, so take supplements A, B and C for the next 6-12 months).
You can learn more about the limitations of protocol-based healthcare in my video.
Thrive Program-Based
Same as standard functional care but with an eye to actually change underlying patterns. Being low in magnesium or progesterone is not a root cause – it is one level deeper than standard medical testing but the question is still, “Why?”
Techniques and therapies to shift nervous and immune system patterns which underlie much of our health issues cannot be done in single appointments. It takes ongoing guidance and refinement – not unlike psychotherapy or physical therapy.
We help you work toward meaningful and lasting changes in how the body functions over time.
Creating Health That Lasts
Conventional Care
Often focused on managing current symptoms and health concerns.
Standard Functional/Holistic
Focused on identifying and addressing contributors to symptoms. Lifestyle changes are recommended but little support is given to turn these into sustainable, long-term changes.
Thrive Program-Based
Designed to help you feel better today, but also build a stronger foundation for the future. The habits, knowledge, resilience and health improvements developed during a program support wellbeing for years and decades to come.
Every healthcare model has strengths. Our goal is not to replace conventional or holistic care, but to provide a level of structure and support that many patients find helpful when creating meaningful long-term improvements in health.

If you’re looking for a more structured approach to improving your health and want support creating meaningful, lasting change, a Discovery Call is the best place to start.
Building a Foundation for the Decades Ahead
Many patients initially come to us because of symptoms.
Weight gain.
Poor sleep.
Low energy.
Stress.
Menopause.
Digestive concerns.
But the deeper goal is often much bigger.
Midlife can be an opportunity to build a stronger foundation for the decades ahead.
The work done during a program is designed not only to improve how you feel today, but also to support healthier aging in the years to come.
By improving nutrition, sleep, movement, metabolic health, stress resilience, and daily habits, patients often leave with knowledge, skills, and routines that continue serving them long after the program has ended.
For many people, this is not simply an investment in symptom relief.
It is an investment in their future health.
Is Program-Based Care Right for Everyone?
Not necessarily.
Our programs are often a good fit for individuals who:
- Want a comprehensive approach rather than quick fixes
- Value education and understanding
- Are willing to participate actively in their health
- Are looking for support and accountability
- Want to create sustainable improvements rather than temporary changes
Some individuals may simply be looking for a one-time consultation or a specific recommendation. In those situations, a program may not be the best fit.
Our goal is not to work with everyone. Our goal is to work with people who are looking for a deeper, more structured approach to improving their health.
Creating Lasting Change
For many patients, the greatest benefit is not simply symptom improvement. It’s having a clear plan, ongoing support and confidence that they are building a stronger foundation for their future health.
